Don’t “Sir” me!!

Let’s be straight. This nonsense of addressing a person with a title in all scenarios that does not involve teaching is something that pisses me off day in day out.

Workplace is definitely not the scene where you start addressing a person in a higher position with this title. Everybody works for a living and it is important to respect the work they do. The colour of your collar does not decide your title.

Names addressed with a prefix such as Mr. Ms. Mrs. invite formal introduction and communication without in any way disrespecting the individual at hand. Moreover it creates a sense of equality professionally as well.

It is going to be very hard for this culture to be eradicated in India. The hope remains that as more and more people travel abroad, and understand different cultures of professional integrity and equality, we can hope there is room for change.
